Master Project (co-supervised) - Distributed Systems: Machine Learning for Sustainability

This semester, the CIT chair is offering a special master project in the area of machine learning for sustainability. The goal is to develop an interesting idea and build a technical prototype, leveraging machine learning, to address a sustainability topic. In particular, we want to investigate how the critical and limited resource water can be better managed in municipal environments, especially in light of a changing climate, demographic change, and urbanization. For this, we will examine how available data sources can be used to increase the efficiency and resilience of urban water networks. Possible objectives for the application would be forecasting and managing extreme weather events, decreasing the energy consumed in water supply network systems, improving network management by coupled supply and demand information, reducing the pollution of rivers and lakes due to sewage overflows during heavy rain events, or decreasing the amount of water leaks/anomalies in the network.

This course is part of the module "Master Project: Distributed Systems" (9LP) and can be used in the master studies Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Information Systems Management in the Study Area "Distributed Systems and Networks".
